RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM

Thank you for inquiring about the religious education program at St. Michael. The faith formation of your child is a privileged responsibility and we look forward to working with you to give your child the best education possible, emphasizing strong, moral values.

The task of our catechists is threefold: to impart knowledge of the faith to each child, to touch their hearts so that the faith will be accepted and cherished throughout their lives, and to motivate the students into action through loving service to others. We recognize that children learn in different ways and we strive to incorporate teaching methods to suit the children’s needs. We also recognize that this can be a very long day for most of the students so creative and thorough lesson planning is done. Reviewing the chapters at home with your child and completing any homework with them, helps to reinforce the material and let’s you know exactly what they are being taught. It is expected that children will attend Sunday Mass each week and that prayer will be a part of their home life.

The textbooks we utilize are the “Faith & Life” series by Ignatius Press for grades 1-8. They foster the traditions and theology of our Catholic Church, reflecting the Gospel message of Jesus and giving each student a solid foundation of the Faith. An overview and scope and sequence of the religion curriculum will be posted on our website in August.

Classes for grades K-8 are held on Mondays and will start this year on September 22. They begin promptly at 4:30pm. ending at 5:45pm. There will be an orientation meeting on the first day of class at 4:30pm. Parents and students will meet in the cafeteria. A handbook for students and parents will be distributed along with a brief presentation and introduction of the teachers. Students will then go to class for the remainder of the time.

We offer a Sunday school program for preschoolers ages 2-5. Classes are held every other Sunday during the 10:00am. Mass. Information, rates and the schedule for this program are enclosed.
