SUNDAY SCHOOL PROGRAM PRESCHOOL St. Michael Parish offers preschool religious education classes every other Sunday during the 10 AM. Mass. This program is designed to provide a foundation upon which future religious education can be built. It seeks to provide religious learning at a young child’s level of understanding and participation. What do the children do during a typical Sunday school class? During each class children will pray together, hear a Bible story or other story related to the day’s theme, sing songs, and have snack. On some days the children will make crafts to bring home. Other days they may have class activities or play theme related games to reinforce the lesson of the day. The toddler group is less structured than preschool 1 and 2 and offers more free play activity. What is the focus of the program?
When and where do the classes meet? Classes begin Sept. 14 and meet every other Sunday with the exception of holiday weekends (see schedule). They meet during the 10:00am Mass in the lower level of the school building. Enter through the Hubbard main entrance doors and take the stairs down immediately on the right. Class lists are posted on the classroom doors. Why aren’t classes offered every Sunday? Many parents would like us to offer the classes every week. Going to Mass can be very difficult with a toddler since children of this age rarely like to sit quietly for a whole hour. However, they will never learn what they do not practice. At Sunday School we talk about going to Church and sitting quietly and praying to Jesus. At Church they can practice this. How are classes set up? There are 3 levels of classes: toddler, preschool 1, and preschool 2 Age eligibility Toddler (2/3 year olds) birthdate before June 1, 2006 Registrations will also be accepted in December for January enrollment. Children turning two who do not make the June 1 cut-off can enroll at that time. Three-five year olds can also register mid-year. Once your child enters kindergarten he/she is no longer eligible for Sunday School classes. Kindergarten religious education classes are offered on Monday afternoons from 4:30-5:45pm. Do the children have textbooks? No. The lessons for Sunday School are provided in four-page leaflets. These leaflets are very colorful and visually engage each child in the Bible stories and lessons of the day. Each week one or two leaflets will be covered in class and sent home. Children will love sharing these lessons with you and other family members. What is the cost? The cost for the full year is $45 per child in-parish and $80 per child out-of-parish. This covers the leaflets, resource materials, craft supplies and snacks. We also try to include a Christmas and/or year-end celebration. How do I register my child? Click here for a registration form. If your child is new to the program, a new student form must also be filled out. Forms and payment can be mailed in or dropped in the collection basket at any weekend Mass. You may also turn them in at the rectory or religious education office. Please submit all registrations for Fall enrollment by Sept. 8.
