Sacraments of Healing

"The Lord Jesus Christ, physician of our souls and bodies, who forgave the sins of the paralytic and restored him to bodily health,3 has willed that his Church continue, in the power of the Holy Spirit, his work of healing and salvation, even among her own members. This is the purpose of the two sacraments of healing: the sacrament of Penance and the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick." (CCC #1421)

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (also referred to as Confession or Penance)

The sacramental celebration in which, through God's mercy and forgiveness, the sinner is reconciled with God and also with the Church, Christ's Body, which is wounded by sin. Catechism of the Catholic Church - Glossary (For more information about this sacrament, look in the Catechism of the Catholic Church #1422-1455, 1468)

Confessions are heard every Saturday from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM or by appointment.

Anointing of the Sick

The Anointing of the Sick "is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived." (CCC #1514)

If a sick person who received this anointing recovers his health, he can in the case of another grave illness receive this sacrament again. If during the same illness the person's condition becomes more serious, the sacrament may be repeated. It is fitting to receive the Anointing of the Sick just prior to a serious operation. The same holds true for the elderly whose frailty becomes more pronounced. (CCC #1515) (For more information, look in the Catechism of the Catholic Church #1499, 1520, 1523, 1526-1532)

If someone you know is in danger of death and in need of anointing, please contact the rectory. St. Michael Parish celebrates one Mass of Anointing a year in the fall. Upcoming Events
