NEWS BOWL
NewsBowl is an academic team competition that tests your knowledge of current events. Teams of five students compete online against teams from all over the country. The last week of the month, teams gather around a computer and answer 50 multiple choice questions in five categories:
- World and National News
- People News
- Geography News
- Arts/Entertainment and Sports News
- Mr. News Owl’s Top Ten (any category)
- Students in grades 6 and 7 are eligible to participate. Teams can change month to month. New teams can be added at any time.
- Meetings are held at lunchtime once per week in the computer lab from January through April.
- League play takes place on your choice of day during the last week of the month. Students strive to reach the benchmark score (20 for 6th grade, 30 for 7th grade). The following week, students check the NewsBowl web site to see how they stack up nationally. If they rank in the top 100, their scores will show up on the website.
