GRADES 1 - 3 PHYSICAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM MOTOR SKILLS AND MOVEMENT PATTERNSMovement Concepts Students Will: Demonstrate selected space awareness movement concepts for location making sure to have enough room in between before they begin and during exercise activities. Demonstrate selected space awareness movement concepts in relation to direction up/down, forward/backward, right/left, and clockwise/counterclockwise direction of movement when performing running exercise. Demonstrate selected space awareness movement concepts for levels in relation to low, medium and high. Demonstrate selected space awareness movement concepts for directional ways (i.e. during running/shuffling exercises and drill work students will understand to utilize various movements to go in a straight pattern, curved pattern, or a zigzag pattern to complete the exercise. Demonstrate space awareness movement concepts in relation to size of the area and the distance of the area. During exercise work out activities or movement activities students will understand how to work in large/small groups far/near groups. Effort Students Will: Demonstrate effort movement concepts for time fast/slow and sudden/sustained (during fitness testing and running exercise activities. Demonstrate effort movement concepts as it relates to force during throwing, shooting, and passing, hitting games between strong and light as it relates to force applied in these various activities. Demonstrate selected effort movement concepts for flow (i.e.; bound and free in isolated settings). Relationships Students Will: Demonstrate relationship movement concepts of body parts round, narrow, wide, twisted, symmetrical, and nonsymmetrical as it relates to various movement activities at each station. Demonstrate relationship movement concepts of objects and /or people under, on/off, near/far, in front/behind, along, through, meeting/parting, surrounding, around and alongside. Demonstrate relationship movement concepts with
people leading/following, mirroring/matching, unison/contrast, solo/alone in mass, partners, and group activities Motor Skills / Non-Locomotor / Locomotor / Manipulative Students Will: Demonstrate elements of non- locomotor skills balancing, bending, stretching, rocking, rolling, curling, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling, swinging, swaying, transferring weight, jumping and landing. Demonstrate mature forms of locomotor skills
walking, running, leaping, sliding, galloping, hopping, and Demonstrate elements of mature form of manipulative skills of rolling underhand throw, and over hand throw in various settings. Demonstrate elements of the skills of catch, kick, foot dribble, and strike with hand in various settings. Demonstrate elements of mature form of skills of hand dribble, and volley. Outdoor Pursuits Students Will: Demonstrate use of movement concepts in outdoor pursuits. Demonstrate use of locomotor skills in outdoor pursuits. Demonstrate use of non – locomotor skills in outdoor pursuits. Rhythmic Activities Students Will: Demonstrate self selected locomotor and axial movement pattern CONTENT KNOWLEDGE Feedback Students Will: Demonstrate use of cues from teacher to improve motor skills
and movement patterns, fitness, and physical activity in various settings. Motor Skills Non- Locomotor/Locomotor/Manipulative Students Will: Distinguish the following non-locomotor skills balancing, bending, stretching, rocking, rolling, curling, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling, swinging, swaying, and landing. Distinguish the following locomotor skills walk, run, leap, jump skip, hop, gallop, slide, chase, flee, and dodge. Distinguish between the following manipulative skills roll, underhand throw, and overhand throw. Identify the manipulative skills of catch, kick, foot dribble, and
strike with hand. Outdoor Pursuits Students Will: Identify the function of clothing and equipment associated with selected outdoor pursuits. Identify selected safety features of outdoor pursuits. Rhythmic Activities Students Will: Create a simple repeating rhythmic sequence by combining a
variety of movement skills. Participation Inside/Outside of Physical Education Students Will: Identify opportunities for physical activity within the school and
community. Health Related Fitness Students Will: Identify opportunities to complete physical fitness testing for age and gender Half Mile Run Walk Test, and Standing Long Jump. Identify opportunities to complete muscular strength and
endurance fitness standards for age and gender Push Ups,
Pull Ups, and Modified Pull Up Flexed Arm Hang. Physical Activity and Nutrition Students Will: Identify that physical activity and nutrition have effects on the body understanding food as fuel, nutritional facts to be aware of. Describing the physiological indicators associated with physical activity sweating, increased heart rate, increased respiration and learning to adjust participation and effort in various settings. FITNESS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Participation During Physical Education Students Will: Participate regularly in physical activities in physical education class, including locomotor activities, manipulative skills, dodging, chasing, and fleeing activities and modified games include combinations of locomotor and manipulative skills. PERSONAL/SOCIAL BEHAVIORS AND VALUES Feedback Students Will: Use feedback from teachers and peers to improve motor skills and movement patterns, fitness and physical activities. Personal/Social Behaviors Students Will: Exhibit behaviors which exemplify each of the personal/social traits of responsibility, best effort, cooperation, and compassion in various settings. Exhibit behaviors which exemplify each of the personal/social traits constructive competition, initiative, and leadership. Regular Participation Students Will: Choose to practice skills for which improvement is needed in isolated settings. Social Benefits Students Will: Identify benefits of social interaction as part of participation in physical activities in isolated settings. Individual Differences Students Will: Participate with students of varying skill and fitness levels in isolated settings. Feelings Students Will: Identify emotions related to how individuals feel while
