GRADES 6 PHYSICAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM

MOTOR SKILLS AND MOVEMENT PATTERNS

Movement Concepts

Students Will:

Demonstrate selected space awareness movement concepts with mature form of non-locomotor, locomotor and selected
manipulative skills.

Motor Skills/Manipulative

Students Will:

Demonstrate selected elements of the mature form of the manipulative skills of catch, kick, dribble, and strike with hand and implements in controlled settings.

Demonstrates selected elements of the mature form of the manipulative skills of chest pass, bounce pass hand dribble,
volley, and punt in isolated settings.

Perform a four element movement in controlled setting.

Outdoor Pursuits

Students Will:

Demonstrate use of movement concepts in outdoor pursuits with self and equipment in controlled settings.

Demonstrate use of locomotor skills in outdoor pursuits with self and equipment in controlled settings.

Demonstrate use of non-locomotor skills in outdoor pursuits with self and equipment in controlled settings.

Demonstrate ability to safely manipulate or use equipment in selected outdoor pursuits in controlled

Demonstrate ability to make minor repairs to equipment in selected outdoor pursuits in controlled settings.

Target Games

Students Will:

Demonstrate strategies for tactical problems, such as accuracy in distance and direction during modified unopposed target games.

Invasion Games

Students Will:

Demonstrate selected off the ball tactical movements.

Demonstrate selected on the ball tactical movements of scoring.

Net Wall Games

Students Will:

Demonstrate selected solutions to tactical problems including off the object problems of scoring during modified net/wall games.

Demonstrate selected elements of tactical problems, including on the object movements of scoring during modified net/wall games.

Striking/ Fielding Games

Students Will:

Demonstrate selected use of infield tactical problems, including scoring and staying in getting on base, moving the runner, advancing to the next base, defending object, scoring runs, preventing scoring.

Rhythmic Activities

Students Will:

Demonstrate two rhythms, simultaneously, in two different parts of the body.

Describe selected game strategies, such as accuracy in distance and direction e.g., reducing number of shots setting up positions during modified, 1vs 1 target games.

Invasion Games

Students Will:

Demonstrate selected elements of tactical problems, including off the ball movements preventing scoring and starting/restarting play during modified games.

Identify selected elements of tactical problems, including on the ball movements of scoring defending goal, and starting/restarting game playing during modified invasion games.

Net Wall Games

Students Will:

Distinguish game strategies of tactical problems, including off the object of scoring and preventing scoring during modified net/wall games.

Striking/ Fielding Games

Students Will:

Rhythmic Activities

Students Will:

Integrate rhythmic formations, positions, and steps with a partner or group in a rhythmic activity , aerobics and fitness station work outs.

Students Will:

Compare and contrast physical activities for intensity and skill level.

Health Related Fitness

Students Will:

Use the criterion referenced cardio respiratory health related fitness standards for age and gender, One Mile Run, Walk Test Half Mile Run Walk Test.

Use the criterion referenced muscular strength and endurance health related fitness standards for age and gender , Curl up, Push up, Pull up, Modified Pull up Flexed Arm Hang.

Use the criterion referenced flexibility health related fitness standards for age and gender, Back saver Sit and Reach, Shoulder Stretch.

Identify a plan for improving or maintaining health related fitness status with assistance from teacher.

Understand how to self assess health related fitness status for muscular strength and endurance, flexibility with teacher guidance.

Understand how to identify the principals of training frequency, intensity, type, time, and overload, specificity.

Physical Activity and Nutrition

Students Will:

Discuss the effects of physical activity and nutrition on the body.

Monitor heart rate during moderate to vigorous physical activity and understand the differences.

Personal / Social Behaviors

Students Will:

Explain the key behaviors of sportsmanship, effort, and cooperation in controlled settings.

Explain the key behaviors of constructive competition and leadership in a controlled setting.
