GRADES 7 - 8 PHYSICAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM MOTOR SKILLS AND MOVEMENT PATTERNSMovement Concepts Students Will: Demonstrate all space awareness movement concepts
with mature form of non-locomotor, locomotor and selected Motor Skills/Manipulative Students Will: Apply mature form of the manipulative skills of catch, kick,foot dribble, and strike with hand and implements in controlled settings. Demonstrate mature form of the manipulative skills of chest pass, bounce pass hand dribble, volley, and punt in isolated settings. Perfom a five element movement sequence in controlled settings. Outdoor Pursuits Students Will: Demonstrate use of movement concepts in outdoor pursuits with self and equipment in dynamic settings. Demonstrate use of locomotor skills in outdoor pursuits with self and equipment in dynamic settings. Demonstrate use of non-locomotor skills in outdoor pursuits with self and equipment in dynamic settings. Demonstrate ability to safely manipulate or use equipment in selected outdoor pursuits in dynamic settings. Demonstrate ability to make minor repairs to equipment in selected outdoor pursuits in dynamic settings. Target Games Students Will: Demonstrate strategies for tactical problems, such as accuracy in distance and direction during modified unopposed target games. Invasion Games Students Will: Demonstrate off the ball tactical movements maintaining possession. Demonstrate on the ball tactical movements of scoring, receiving, shooting, attacking the goal defending goal. Net Wall Games Students Will: Demonstrate selected solutions to tactical problems including off the object problems of scoring during modified net/wall games. Demonstrate selected elements of tactical problems, including on the object movements of scoring during modified net/wall games. Striking/ Fielding Games Students Will: Demonstrate infield tactical problems, including scoring and staying in getting on base, moving the runner, advancing to the next base, defending object, scoring runs, preventing scoring. Rhythmic Activities Students Will: Demonstrate rhythmic movement patterns with pathways using different qualities of movement.
CONTENT KNOWLEDGE Feedback Students Will: Apply internal (prior knowledge) and external feedback to improve motor skills and movement patterns, fitness and physical activities in controlled settings. Movement Concepts Students Will: Apply knowledge of movement concepts while performing
non-locomotor, skills during participation in target net/wall Motor Skills Students Will: Apply knowledge of movement concepts and skills to design plan a five element movement sequence simple rhythmic or aerobic activities in controlled settings. Outdoor Pursuits Students Will: Apply knowledge of the function of equipment associated with selected outdoor pursuits. Apply knowledge of safety features of outdoor pursuits in controlled settings. Identify selected elements of decision-making skills relate to engaging in outdoor pursuits. Target Games Students Will: Describe selected game strategies, such as accuracy in distance and direction e.g., reducing number of shots setting up positions during modified, 1 vs 1 target games. Invasion Games Students Will: Demonstrate selected elements of tactical problems, including off the ball movements preventing scoring and starting/restarting play during modified invasion games. Describe selected elements of tactical problems, including on the ball movements of scoring passing receiving shooting defending goal, and starting/restarting game playing during modified invasion games. Net Wall Games Students Will: Distinguish game strategies of tactical problems, including off the object of scoring and preventing scoring during modified net/wall games. Participation Inside/Outside of Physical Education Students Will: Explain the relationship between physical activity and lifelong health. Health Related Fitness Students Will: Plan a course of action to meet the criterion referenced cardio respiratory health related fitness standards for age and gender, One Mile Run, Walk Test Half Mile Run Walk Test. Plan a course of action to meet the criterion referenced muscular strength and endurance health related fitness standards for age and gender , Curl up, Push up, Pull up, Modified Pull up Flexed Arm Hang. Plan a course of action to meet the criterion referenced flexibility health related fitness standards for age and gender, Back saver Sit and Reach, Shoulder Stretch. Develop a plan for improving or maintaining health related fitness status with assistance from teacher. Understand how to self assess health related fitness status for muscular strength and endurance, flexibility with teacher guidance. Describe the principals of training frequency, intensity, type, time, overload, specificity. Physical Activity and Nutrition Students Will: Evaluate the effects of physical activity and nutrition on the body. Apply the physiological indicators associated with moderate to vigorous physical activity to monitor heart rate during moderate to vigorous physical activity and understand the differences. Personal / Social Behaviors Students Will: Explain the key behaviors of sportsmanship, effort, and cooperation in controlled settings. Explain the key behaviors of constructive competition and leadership in a controlled setting. Regular Participation Students Will: Choose to participate in activities that are personally challenging in a controlled setting. Explain why to choose to participate in physical activity on a regular basis, outside of physical education for personal enjoyment and benefit in a dynamic setting. Social Benefits Students Will: Use physical activity as a positive opportunity for social interaction in controlled settings. Individual Differences Students Will: Choose to participate with students of varying skill and fitness levels in dynamic settings. Choose to participate in activities that allow for self expression in controlled settings. FITNESS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Participation During Physical Education Students Will: Participate in physical activities that are vigorous in intensity level. Participate in all end of the year Field Day Activities. Participation Outside of Physical Education Students Will: Accumulate time in physical activities that are moderate to vigorous in intensity level. Health Related Fitness Students Will: Meet the criterion referenced cardio respiratory health related fitness standards for age and gender. Meet the criterion referenced muscular strength and endurance health related fitness standards for age and gender Curl Up, Push Up, Pull Up, Modified Pull Up, Flexed Arm Hang. Meet the criterion referenced flexibility health related standards for age and gender Sit and Reach, Shoulder Stretch. Develop a plan for improving or maintaining health related fitness status with assistance from teacher. Self-assess health related fitness status for muscular strength and endurance flexibility and body composition with teacher guidance. Describe the principals of training, frequency, intensity, type time, overload, and specificity. Physical Activity and Nutrition Students Will: Monitor the effects of physical activity and nutrition on the body. Apply the physiological indicators associated with moderate to vigorous physical activity to monitor and/ or adjust participation/effort.
