The Eucharistic Outreach program, Communion to the Homebound, has been able to pair two or three Outreach Ministers with each parishioner wishing to receive the Eucharist every Saturday or Sunday. This allows each Minister the flexibility to accommodate personal plans, family needs, vacations and such without neglecting their Homebound person. Many wonderful and rewarding relationships have been formed and some Ministers have become fast friends with their Communion recipients, staying extra moments to visit and share their time and lives with one another. This is definitely one of those opportunities which gives every bit as much spiritual joy to the volunteer as it does to the Homebound person.
The program continues to grow, especially as those receiving Communion weekly express greater and greater satisfaction with the program and “their” volunteer. We need new volunteers and, of course, the names of anyone you know within the parish who may have need of these services – on a regular or short-term basis.
To find out more about this very special and rewarding opportunity, contact Dianne Fessler at dfessler@livoniastmichael.org. A brief training session is required for all Outreach ministers. You do NOT need to be an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist to become an Outreach Minister. We will provide you with a pyx, burse and a prayer card which has everything that you will need to do and say in order to take as much of the Mass as possible to the homebound person.
