2010 LENTEN AND EASTER CALENDAR

PRAYER, FASTING AND ALMSGIVING
The Three Disciplines of Lent
The interior penance of the Christian can be expressed in many and various ways. Scripture and the Fathers insist above all on three forms, fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, which express conversion in relation to oneself, to God, and to others. (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1434 )
Prayer: Prayer is communication with God. Lent is a time to deepen our prayer life.
Fasting: Most prominently means fasting from food. We also “fast” from behaviors or habits as a form of prayer. This fast is the “giving up” we do during Lent.
Alsmgiving: Giving money to the poor is almsgiving. We can also give of ourselves and our Time to those in need.
